Product Description Norpro Bread Slicer with Crumb Catcher
Amazon.com Review This is an adequate no-frills manual bread slicer, and adequate is the operative word. The crumb catcher eliminates messes, making this slicer a much cleaner option than slicing bread on a cutting board. Also, you can achieve uniform 1/2-inch slices; the only caveat is that you can't adjust the slicer to cut any thicker or thinner. Use your longest serrated knife when cutting, because a knife that just barely spans the width of the slicing tray will keep slipping out of the acrylic slicing guides. The guides have no top support and tend to wobble a bit as you slice. They also have inexplicably high sides; you'd have to use triple the leavening to make bread that reaches the top of them. Despite its design limitations, the Norpro deluxe bread slicer is easy to assemble and maintain and has an attractive overall look. --Carol Gnojewski

Practical Unit February 18, 2006 E. S. Wilson (San Diego, CA) 34 out of 37 found this review helpful
We like our Norpro bread slicer a lot. The wooden base was perfect for a bread slicer and the fit of the parts was excellent. I read the reviews that criticized strength of construction, and the strength is fine so long as the unit isn't abused. I liked the reasonable price since I wasnt' really prepared to put a whole lot of money into a bread slicer. We got a 10" bread knife, and we were really happy when it came in the mail and we got to try it out. I would recommend it to anyone who is smart enough to know how to take care of the things they buy and doesn't like to waste money.

I have been looking for a decent bread slicer for quite some time. This one sold by Amazon seemed to be exactly what I wanted. I ordered it and found it to be as good as stated. I can slice my homemade bread to a nice size --- not too thin and not too thick. If desired, I can cut thicker slices by simply removing the end piece of the slicer and moving the loaf forward or thinner slices by pulling the loaf end away from the end piece.

I read two poor reviews of this product but, fortunately, decided to try it for myself. Judging from the picture, it looked like a good product. I had tried another brand and didn't like it. This one looked like an improvement and it was. You do, of course, have to use a bread knife that is long enough to fit into both sides of the guide. Also, if bread is allowed to cool, it will slice much better. I really like this product and my bread sliced easily and evenly.
Bread slicer is Great August 26, 2007 Clydine Tonelis (Jones, Ok USA) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
The crumb catcher on the bread slicer is a very good added touch. You never have a mess left on the cabinet.
This thing is awesome! August 13, 2008 Cipherz 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
My wife any I had just bought a bread machine and decided to start making our own bread. After baking our first loaf it was very apparent that we needed a bread slicer. It was as if I were a 5 year old trying to color and not being able to stay within the lines. We purchased this bread slicer because it looked like it was of good quality and we liked the crumb catcher.
This is a great slicer. I have sliced anything from sandwich loaves to french bread to bagels. Works great!
