A Handy Item! March 28, 2008 M. Herrin (Louisiana) 22 out of 22 found this review helpful
Since this scale arrived, I have been amazed at how many things I find myself measuring. For some reason, it seems important to know that my handbag weights 5 lbs. I was also surprised to learn that my suitcase weighs 10 pounds empty! That leaves me with only 40 pounds of stuff to put in it. This scale is very useful, seems to be sturdy and accurate, and will accompany me on my vacation this summer to keep tabs on how much I am adding to my luggage along the way.

This little scale can pay for itself many times over, and grants peace of mind as you approach check in. I purchased two, one for my Australian friend who always overpacks and has to pay at the gate for overweight luggage. It is more accurate than bathroom scales. If you are by yourself, hold it in front of a mirror.

A must for those who travel with large suitcases. Use this before you leave and carry it with you for the trip home. Great for avoiding the airlines extra fee for overweight bags. Also saves you from re-packing suitcases at the airport.
Very Helpful to Avoid The Suitcase Shuffle at Check-In November 6, 2007 Isis (Maryland) 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
I bought this for my trip to China, since we were only allowed one 44 pound suitcase while we traveled within China. Since my suitcase normally runs 51-53 pounds, I bought a big duffle bag (which saved 5 pounds) and this scale. I used it to weigh both my suitcase and my husband's suitcase throughout our many stops as we added souvenirs each day.
Turn the black circle handle in the middle to reset the black line back to zero. Hook metal handle in suitcase handle, bend knees, and lift straight up. The black line will mark the highest weight, so you can put the suitcase back down and see where the black line is. I would do this a few times, to get a better idea of the maximum weight. Either due to my lifting style or my scale, I was a pound or two over initially, so you may want to give yourself a two pound buffer if you want your suitcase to be underweight. The tape measure on the scale is helpful if you have size restrictions.
Hints: Make sure your husband's suitcase has lots of room and is lighter, so you can give him the heavy stuff, like shoes or books. Also, another couple brought a smaller suitcase (and filled it) and put it within a bigger suitcase, so once we went international and could have two suitcases, they had even more suitcase storage space and weight allowed.
This scale is very helpful for anyone who has gone over the suitcase weight limit at check-in and has had to try to re-shuffle items between suitcases, carry-ons, or even had to buy another bag to prevent paying the hefty fine.
Must Have Travel Accessory March 20, 2007 Elek A. Fenyes (Philadelphia, Pa. USA) 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
After being forced to re-package our suitcases on the floor of the airport we decided that a travel scale was essential. The wife's suitcase was 55 Lb, mine was 35. The airline people weren't going to average them.
This scale is the answer. It is designed to show the weight of the piece of luggage once it is lifted and sat back down. You don't have to struggle to see the weight while holding it in the air. It also has a convenient measuring tape built in to make sure you meet not only the weight but also the size requirements. It is rugged and well built.
